Tree management – dead trees were removed to prevent floov being swept away, causing blockages under bridges. The bridge acted like a dam and eventually smashed through causing a surge of water up to 5m high. The flooding also had several other key impacts on Boscastle and its inhabitants.

The flooding coincided with a high tide, making the impact much worse. The drainage basin of Boscastle is steep and impermeable rock.
