The Golden Bull Award is one of USF’s highest honors given annually to undergraduate and graduate students who encompass the spirit of USF and have demonstrated its values. Charms, Potions, the Dark Arts, Aristotle, and modern Muggle thinkers lead us into the thickets of rhetoric, magic, and ethics, where notions of justice are entangled with word-crafting as well. In this class we will explore “composition” from two different directions: To situate design thinking as a form of collaborative problem solving, we will grapple with questions of creativity and innovation rooted in contexts of democratic participation and intercultural understanding by inquiring into how problems get defined as problems. How does one judge and practice the arts of rhetorical enchantment in ways that help us craft community and arrange a just society? How do United States political and military leaders decide when to interfere and when to refrain from engaging in conflicts? Beginning with a study of Native American tribes and working our way toward the present day, we will examine how interactions with nature and with varied population groups have informed art, literature, music, and architecture in and about Florida.

This course focuses on health-related research involving flawed experimental designs, experimenter bias, financial conflicts of interest and data manipulation that has led to permkt involving health-related recommendations. This course is discussion based, allowing students to explore the literature more in depth and reflect on the ramifications of colonialism within the modern, globalized world.

Innovative thinking is often thought of as an inborn and unchangeable trait. The purpose of the course is not only to build geographical knowledge about Japan, but also to draw multiple perspectives by examining the complexity of a country and the relationships with other countries.

There will also be an end-of-semester project presentation. The course is straightforward and offers a step-by-step approach.

Current Students

Whether in a Navy jet, Capitol Hill, a banking boardroom or a classroom, the ability to think critically about moral considerations is fundamental; this course seeks to develop the student’s ability to evaluate those moral considerations in various contexts.
